I just watched the cuteness. A perk of being an aunt. :)

He’s a hoot. A million different expressions. Planning on drawing/painting his portrait. Not sure what expression yet. Maybe all of them somehow?

He’s starting to remind me of a character of mine named Roger. I found this drawing torn from a sketch book of mine.

Also working on some movie odes and some other work to show soon. Here is a sketch of an idea from a certain classic movie. More on the finished piece, just stay tuned.

Honey bear, your word echos my thoughts exactly.

Speaking of bears here is a photo a few weeks old of my little nephew with some handsewn gifts I made of a certain president and his namesake bear. Not the actual bear, but a relative. I know what you’re thinking. The sewing job is impeccable. My thoughts exactly. Project Runway application here I come!

…or maybe not.

I was taking a break, cleaning my studio, when I found a photo on the floor in the corner. Cue emotional music. Let me tell you a story… http://artbyel.com/illustration_el_lohse/2010/06/10/i-was-taking-a-break-cleaning-my-studio-when-i-found-a-photo-on-the-floor-in-the-corner-cue-emotional-music-let-me-tell-you-a-story/ http://artbyel.com/illustration_el_lohse/2010/06/10/i-was-taking-a-break-cleaning-my-studio-when-i-found-a-photo-on-the-floor-in-the-corner-cue-emotional-music-let-me-tell-you-a-story/#comments Thu, 10 Jun 2010 15:27:31 +0000 Administrator http://artbyel.com/illustration_el_lohse/?p=120 …of when I painted a bookstore’s front window every month for a year after graduating from college.

The only photo I have of it, albeit a blurry one.

I photographed it with my Pentax K1000 manual camera with, yes, actual film.

It was so much fun painting them. I used large bottles of school grade tempera paint and worked on a ladder.

I felt like one of the Mexican muralists or Ben Shahn or … {I can’t think of  a female muralist, except for maybe me. :)) } painting my large scale masterpiece! Each month was a different theme.

This was Poetry Month.

After 4 weeks I’d spray the scene with window cleaner and scrape the paint off the glass with a razor… always bittersweet.

But then the glass would be dry and I’d start all over again. A clean (clear) slate.

What I learned from painting windows—wear sunscreen, lots of it. People never believed me when I told them my sunburn came from indoors and “No, not a tanning salon.” My ancestors never tanned. We only freckle and turn red.

Sorry for the tangent…back to painting windows. Always remember to wear sunglasses.

If you don’t have them, borrow a pair from Ernie the 90 year old maintenance man like I had to a few times. The glasses looked like they belonged to Elton John in the 1970′s. They were ginormous but effective UV protection.

Amelia and Seymour went to Paris http://artbyel.com/illustration_el_lohse/2010/06/06/amelia-and-seymour-went-to-paris/ http://artbyel.com/illustration_el_lohse/2010/06/06/amelia-and-seymour-went-to-paris/#comments Sun, 06 Jun 2010 18:46:01 +0000 Administrator http://artbyel.com/illustration_el_lohse/?p=106

Other than the fact that it was difficult for them to find hotel or b&b accommodations that were underwater, the two had a grand time.

“C’est Magnifique!” replies Amelia.

She has a few souvenirs from the trip.

The dress she is wearing and a snowglobe of the Eiffel tower.

She collects snowglobes.

They always remind her of home underwater.

Seymour bought a striped shirt and beret.

He started drinking café after café in smokey cafés and reading Kerouac and Sartre while trying to snap his fingers, I mean fins … and growing a goatee!

Amelia is hoping it’s just a phase.

Introducing 1 minute stories by el… or “nanosecond stories” if you’re a speed reader showoff type http://artbyel.com/illustration_el_lohse/2010/06/04/introducing-1-minute-stories-by-el-or-nanosecond-stories-if-youre-a-speed-reader-showoff-type/ http://artbyel.com/illustration_el_lohse/2010/06/04/introducing-1-minute-stories-by-el-or-nanosecond-stories-if-youre-a-speed-reader-showoff-type/#comments Fri, 04 Jun 2010 13:26:16 +0000 Administrator http://artbyel.com/illustration_el_lohse/?p=99

They’re wearing their new disguises. Pretty cool huh? They like to think so.

Unfortunately their nemesis ‘zapatos verdes’ (aka ‘green shoes’) is on their trail and is about to botch their mission with a photograph of the crime fighting pair!

No worries though, in case you were.

With only a few seconds to stop and smell the flowers, the agents soon change disguises at the hedgehog’s place.

The fake facial hair made them sneeze.
